Fakeout (False Breakout)
A breakout that looks real at first, then reverses — often designed to trap traders who react too early.
Institutions often need liquidity sitting just beyond an obvious level to fill large orders without moving price against themselves. A quick push through the level triggers stop losses and fresh entries — once that liquidity is absorbed, price no longer needs to keep pushing, and it reverses.
